Makanyi is a spectacular and well-received new lodge in the heart of the Timbavati. It is a fabulous location for game, and has delivered almost daily sightings of Big Five animals with its good-sized traversing area of 5,000 hectares kept mostly to itself.
PLAINS PREDATORS
The epic plains of the Timbavati are famed for their herds of elephant. The wide open spaces suit the hunting strategy of the wild dog, who can be seen here in packs.
MEGA HERDS
Large herds of buffalo are characteristic of the area, and it is ancestral home to the fabled white lion.
Luxury suites
Seven luxury suites overlook the magnificent dam. High spec suites have an extra large bed, a relaxing sitting area with fireplace, and a beautiful bathroom with spacious shower and separate tub. There is also a private deck with loungers and an outdoor shower.
Honeymoon suites
Two honeymoon suites are located furthest from the main lodge with the greatest privacy to enjoy the plunge pool on the deck, as well as romantic four poster beds.
Viewing deck & pool
There is a pool with bush view and sun loungers. The cosy loft serves as a quiet reading area or as a lounge to enjoy TV or movies. Dine on the deck by the pool or sip a cocktail to the sounds of lions nearby. Large sofas by the roaring fireplace keep you warm on a chilly evening.
Photographic safaris
Photographic safaris can be arranged for individuals or groups of up to 4. Equipment is available for hire. A dedicated private vehicle (with supports, bean bags and space for lenses) is used. Specific subjects are taught and images are reviewed at the lodge.
