Riverside with waterhole
Shaded by age-old Jackalberry and Leadwood trees, Simbavati River Lodge is an intimate, family-friendly camp on the banks of the Nhlaralumi River. This pretty watercourse runs in summer when rain abounds, and is a dry riverbed in winter.

Visiting elephants
Simbavati takes its name from the local Shangaan language, translated as “the place where the lions come down from the stars”. There is good game viewing from the lodge, where a waterhole is maintained. Elephants are frequent visitors to the river course.

12,000 Timbavati hectares
River Lodge traverses 12,000 hectares of northern sector Timbavati bush, with good wildlife and rich wilderness. A couple of nights and some driving should produce the Big Five. A bit of patience is needed for the commendable policy of never more than 2 vehicles at a sighting.

Photographic safaris
Photographic safaris are available with a specialised game drive vehicle.

Luxury safari tents
A contemporary design accommodates guests in 8 luxury safari tent rooms and 3 thatched chalets. All are privately situated, comfortably furnished with en-suite facilities, and positioned to enjoy views over the riverbed from private decks.

Large family suites
The suites provide excellent family accommodation with a large master bedroom and a small twin bedroom for kids. Some areas are decorated in a gun metal grey, with baths sunk into the floor. They have excellent river views.

Large lounge & deck
The lodge’s large lounge has an open deck overlooking the river view, and is a good place to enjoy the down-to-earth atmosphere. A bar, boma, spa and curio shop are centrally located.

Good food
A focus on food and drink supports the laid-back style for which River Lodge has become a favourite with families, couples and individual travellers. The weather usually permits dining on the viewing deck or in the open-air boma.
