Vintage family-run lodge

Motswari has four stars and a vintage style. It is welcoming and run hands-on by family owners. The northern-most Timbavati lodge, it borders and shares Umbabat and Kruger game. It has a five star reputation and many repeat visitors.

Good traversing variety

Game drives enjoy generous traversing around the lodge. There is a strong population of white rhino. Super-active photographer-guides help you tick off the Big Five in a few days on their twice-daily 3-4 hour excursions.

White lions

White lions are indigenous to Timbavati and are a local special (with luck). Predators include leopard, cheetah and wild dogs. Prey include herbivores from the antelope and gazelle family.

Excellent evening drives

Nocturnal creatures enlivening sunset drives include hyena, genet, honey-badger, civet, the bush-baby and owls. Aardvark are an occasional treat.

If relaxing in camp isn’t your style, bush walks take place in the middle of the morning and are well worth opting-into.

Bungalow suites

With 15 luxury-appointed en-suite bungalows, each with air-conditioning and excellent bush views, guests enjoy comfort which complements superb family-driven service. Interiors are plush and naturally-furnished in stone, bone and wood.

Varied activities

The main area contains two bars, a swimming pool, a library and an art gallery. An unusual Motswari feature is the pre-lunch safari interest talks.

Buffet-style meals are served by singing and dancing staff in the lounge, around the fire in a traditional boma, or out in the bush amongst the Big Five (watched over by armed guides and trackers). Meals are accompanied by an award-winning selection of Southern African wines.

Giraffe's Nest sleep-out

Giraffe’s Nest is a spectacular sleep-out hide at Xanatsi Dam, sleeping two in surroundings as luxurious as the main camp. Leave the roof open to the stars, or retract it if it clouds over.

Peace and tranquillity

You will be briefed and escorted to the dam before sunset, and left in privacy and tranquillity until the following morning. Drinks and a delicious simple dinner will be provided for you to enjoy.
