nThambo Tree Camp

Unusual raised tent platforms on stils at nThambo Tree Camp

Tree level huts

nThambo is a small, unusual thatched camp with canvas tents raised 3m off the ground on stilts to bring you to tree level. Views extend over a pumped waterhole which attracts perennial game to the surrounding plain.

NIGHT GAME DRIVES

Night drives are an unusual part of the offering here, and are worthwhile option with excellent nocturnal wildlife. Guides can take guests for special sightings out-of-hours, which is a privilege.

LEOPARD AT NIGHT

Your chances of seeing leopard in particular are a lot higher at night and with a bit of luck you might even encounter the predators such as lion and leopard hunting.

GOOD BIRDING

Birdlife is a mix of migrant and resident species. Commonly seen (and heard) birds at nThambo include rollers, hornbills, glossy starling, shrike, waxbills, drongo, and francolin. Klaserie is a primary breeding area for white-backed vultures. Circling carcasses, you can also expect to see lappet-faced and hooded vultures.

BASIC COMFORT, GREAT VIEW

Five ensuite chalets are well separated with private balconies enjoying expansive views over a waterhole on the plain in front of camp. This attracts animals day and night with regular sightings of elephants, warthog, antelope and baboons. The camp is frequented by a pair of honey badgers.

DECK & DINING

A thatched lounge and dining area opens to a small plunge pool  and deck with sun loungers and umbrellas.

CAMPFIRE & KRAAL

A traditional boma offers a campfire setting for evening meals, open to the sky and surrounded by a wooden kraal. A particular treat is dining outside on the plain.
