60 mins fr Skukuza apt

A captive airport financed and operated by Airlink, Skukuza is most convenient for southern Sabi Sand, and is inside the south of the public Kruger. Avis is the monopoly car hire outlet at the airport which offers a convenient way to start a self-drive trip.

Lucky passengers collected by the vehicles of certain southern Sabi Sand lodges (Sabi Sabi, Lion Sands, MalaMala, Nottens, Kirkmans Camp) turn left out of the car park through a control boom onto a private road into the reserve, avoiding a 45+ minute detour to Shaws gate. These lodges make excellent fly-in options. By going to these lodges you also avoid paying Kruger conservation fees (currently around R330 per international adult visitor per day).

Sunrise at Skukuza airport

The Mlutumvi (Rhino Walking Safaris) concession is just north over the Sabie River.

For lodges that do not have back road access to Sabi Sand, Shaws Gate for Sabi Sand south is 45 minutes away.

Newington Gate for western Sabi Sand is 60 minutes by road.

Skukuza is also convenient for the private Mluwati concession. Allow at least 120 minutes at game drive speeds.

There is a network of lodge-hopping flights originating from here for the ultimate fly-ins.
