Timbavati South

Lodges in the south of Timbavati Nature Reserve are on wide open savannah plains where elephant and buffalo congregate in herds. The main access gate is a short drive from Hoedspruit airport, which adjoins the unfenced Greater Kruger area.

The Ngala contractual park is also in this area and is where the river of the same name actually runs. Only the two Ngala lodges can be accessed by the Orpen Road to Kruger with private road after the SANParks boom gate (they cannot be reached via the Timbavati gate).

If you are self-driving to southern Timbavati, note that there is no public access from Orpen Gate to the Timbavati Reserve either through the park or by cutting across through Ngala. Travel back to the R40 and enter via Argyle Road (pass Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport). Ignore the Guernsey Road. Get a transfer if you are unsure.
