Timamoon is an intimate, luxurious, romantic bolthole up in the mountains of the Panorama Route, fashioned after the luxurious palaces of the North African dynasties. It is a hotel not a game lodge.

Six uniquely styled suites offer panoramic views over the Sabie Gorge and down along the river. All are equipped with fantastic rim-flow plunge pools. Most have outdoor showers and daybeds.

The suites are all wonderfully situated with great views. They are similar in size and individually, tastefully furnished, but it is the Moon River Suite that has the signature vista down the Valley.

The Amber Moon Suite is further into the forest with extensive views, and is surrounded by verdant banana plantations.

The restaurant is as beautiful as the rooms, and the food justifies staying for a few nights of luxurious rest and recuperation.The chefs will be pleased to cater to your specific tastes if you let them know in advance.

Breakfasts are by the spectacular koi carp pond while supper is in the luxuriously appointed restaurant open to a view over the valley. The bar doubles as a cigar lounge and is a lovely place to retreat to for coffee and a brandy after a sumptuous dinner. There is a full sized snooker table in its own room in the main area.

Activities

If you have to leave the tranquillity, activities include horse-riding, quad-biking, abseiling, canoeing the Sabie River, walking, and cycling. The Long Tom Toboggan and Graksop’s Big Swing are nearby.

River picnic

The attractions of the Blyde Canyon and Panorama Route are close by, and you can head further into the hills to the trails and rainforests of Magoebaskloof or to the Cycad Gardens of the Rain Queen Modjadji. Staff will happily pack a picnic for you to take on these adventures, or to just wander down to sit on the banks of the river and while away the day in peace.
