Ngala Tented Camp

Safari glamping at Ngala Tented Camp

Glamping at its best

Offering sophisticated camping (glamping) at its best, Ngala Tented Camp’s nine luxurious permanent safari tents overlook the banks of the seasonal Timbavati River with spectacular views. The setting is  wild, but there is nothing primitive about these chic lodgings.

Elephant plains of Timbavati river

Ngala is next to the southern Timbavati Reserve, containing the river of that name, and close to the Orpen Gate. It is a private reserve incorporated in to the Kruger that resembles a concession and no longer a member of Timbavati (we keep it here for continuity). The characteristic central Kruger plains are known for large herds of elephant.

Timbavati white lioness

(White) lions

The Camp is at a latitude known for lion activity, along with the established presence of naturally-occurring white lions. They form a population with a recessive gene for albinism.

Comfort under canvas

Each tent is mounted on stilted platforms, Meru-style, and combines elegant comfort with the romance of canvas. Flickering lanterns and big night sounds  accompany your stay under the stars.

Front row seats

The location between dense riverine forest and the sandy river bed allows for decks with expansive views, offering a frontline perspective of game wandering down to drink.

Creature comforts

A rim flow pool mimics the contours of the river bed, inviting you in for a refreshing dip. For your own creature comforts, there are outdoor showers and a massage sala overlooking the river.

Outdoor dining

At night, a roaring fireplace springs to life. Meals are shared in spectacular settings among islands or reeds in the dry riverbed, beneath the canopy of massive trees, or on the expansive deck.

Extended drives & walks

Night drives and extended walking safaris, activities rarely on offer in other reserves, add to the sense of wilderness here.
