Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge is a beautifully located, all-suite property set overlooking an active river plain and waterhole where animals regularly come to drink. It is in the southern extreme of Sabi Sand, reputed for its high game concentrations. The Lodge and Suites (25 Suites sleep up to 50 people) are furnished in a contemporary yet ethnically-inspired style. Design is unobtrusive and manages to blend into the bush. External walls are the colour and texture of wet elephant hide. The rooms are tastefully appointed and feature indigenous slate floors, bathroom walls and outside patios decorated in an amber, gray and ochre palette that complements the surroundings.
Little expense has been spared when it comes to the appointments inside the suites. A sense of space and light pervades each suite. High thatch and discreet air-conditioning provide a cool escape during the warmer months. The bathroom, with its cavernous bath and interior and exterior showers, offer open views to the river plains beyond. Glass bottles containing high quality cosmetics, a novel leather sewing kit and a crystal decanter of sherry are just some of the special touches designed to delight the senses and ensure a memorable stay.
This Lodge has always held a special appeal for visitors and groups who seek not only the excitement of the Big Five experience but the Lodge's informal and friendly atmosphere. The emphasis is on camaraderie and fun, and the accommodation adds a luxurious dimension to the Bush Lodge experience. The communal facilities are spacious and welcoming.
When you can be persuaded to leave the comfortable wooden chairs on your deck offering private views of the waterhole, you can venture outside the Lodge to experience big game country. Under the guidance of Sabi Sabi's qualified game rangers and renowned Shangaan trackers, you will take to the bush on early morning and evening night safaris in open Landrovers.
Sabi Sabi operates its own Private Game Reserve within the Sabi Sand, so you are guaranteed exclusivity. Exceptional game viewing has always been a trademark here, and the Bush Lodge safaris are no exception.
More intrepid travellers, seeking an intimate encounter with the African wilderness, will not be disappointed. Each day, armed rangers offer walking trails during which visitors can learn about ecology, habitat management and the medicinal uses of plants. And if leisure is your pleasure, you can simply relax in the shade of one of the Reserve's many hides to watch the prolific bird life.
Meals, including the wonderful dinners in the open air boma, are heralded by blasts on a kudu horn, summoning you to delicious food. The public spaces include artistically designed open courtyards with spectacular wooden carvings by renowned South African sculptors, created from uprooted trees and wood salvaged from the surrounding bushveld.
|Superb larger Lodge with outstanding facilities and particularly suited to families and groups|
This place comes well recommended and is popular with our clients. There are often families and groups here, and it is particularly well-suited in you are one of those (romantic couples will prefer the sister Little Bush Camp also at Sabi Sabi). Bush Lodge is a real immersion in the bush, starting with the suites which afford a remarkable degree of luxury whilst blending unobstrusively into their surroundings. There is plentiful general game in and around the camp; three-strand fences keep the charismatic megafauna out (good for families as it allows the kids to roam inside) but they are regular visitors to the waterhole which you can see from the deck.
Game Drives are uniformly excellent. Sabi Sabi is justly renowned for its Big Five and a couple of days here will give you a the best chance of seeing them. Some of the Guides here are keen photographers and always willing to share a tip or two.
This is one of few Lodges in the Sabi Sand which really welcomes kids. Six years old is the minimum age to join game drives here. Their EleFun Centre is just the ticket to entertain the little ones and provide bush inspiration. We cover it in our Luxury Family Safari.
