The Kruger National Park is amongst the largest game reserves on the African continent, and the most diverse with 14 distinct ecozones. It covers 18,989 square kilometers (7,332 sq miles) of the top right hand corner of South Africa. This makes it larger than eighty countries; the closest in size are Slovenia and El Salvador. Compare it to Wales or the US state of New Jersey to get an idea. It is 360 kilometers (220 miles) from north to south and 65 kilometers (40 miles) from east to west. Allow at least three days to drive the length at game drive speeds.

West and south of the Kruger National Park are the two South African provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga. In the north is Zimbabwe, and to the east is Mozambique. The Kruger is part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, a Peace Park that links Kruger across the international borders with Gonarezhou National Park (Zim) and Limpopo National Park (Moz). This lot combined are the size of Holland or Maryland. Bring your passport and explore!

Much of the Kruger Park plus the Blyde Canyon forms the Kruger to Canyons Biosphere, an area proclaimed by UNESCO as an international Biosphere Reserve. This is where we get our name from, though most call it (and us) just K2C.

The Big Five game animals - African Elephant, black and white Rhino, Cape Buffalo, Lion and Leopard - are found in relative abundance at Kruger National Park. There are more species of mammals (147) than any other African Game Reserve. On a single day trip to the Park, you can realistically expect to see Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Giraffe, Wildebeest, Waterbuck, Hippo, Impala (there are 150,000+ of these).

A longer stay, and your Guide's skill (and your luck) begin to work: the cats - Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Civet, Caracal; the other big predators - Spotted and Brown Hyena, Jackal, Wild Dogs (African Painted Wolves), an array of Vultures, the Secretary Bird. A night drive can reveal Aardvark, Porcupine, Pangolin and Honey Badgers.

More than five hundred species of birds are found in the Kruger: 253 are residents, 117 non-breeding migrants, and 147 nomads. Kruger is an ornithologist's paradise, particularly our favourite area, Makuleke in the far north. Kruger houses 114 species of reptile including 3,000 Crocodiles and local specials such as the Black Mamba.

Our K2C Safaris are arranged privately and exclusively for your party, or you can join a group for certain of them if you prefer (for example, our Photography Workshops). We tailor make Safaris for families, groups of friends, or single independent travellers. Honeymoons and trips-of-a-lifetime are a speciality. We particularly enjoy welcoming these visitors back! We also arrange corporate or society gatherings (150 people being the largest we have organised).

A few Safaris are limited to fixed dates or are seasonal departures changing with the rhythms of the year: these are indicated in the details. Where road transport is called for, you can often self-drive (we can include a rental vehicle if you wish) but we typically organise chauffeured transfers or fully Guided tours to suit. We arrange scheduled and chartered domestic flights to dovetail into your itinerary.

Lodges are fully-staffed, including local Guides for game drives and walks where taken. All are fully-catered unless indicated otherwise. We work with you to use the K2C itineraries as a starting point to design something that really matches your expectations. And we can provide one of our excellent specialist Guides to join you throughout the Safari if you wish.
