Makanyi is a spectacular new Lodge in the heart of the Timbavati (opened June 2015). It has been exceptionally well received, to the extent that it did not receive a single TripAdvisor rating less than "Excellent" in its first year of operation. It has a fabulous location for game, and has certainly delivered on sightings, including pretty-much daily Big Five. Click on the video for a sense of the elegance.
Seven luxury suites overlook the magnificent dam. A high specification includes an extra large bed, a relaxing sitting area with its own fireplace, a beautiful bathroom with a spacious shower and separate bathtub, a private deck with loungers and an outdoor shower. Two are special honeymoon suites. As they are located furthest from the main lodge they offer the greatest privacy, as well as a romantic four-poster bed and a wonderful private plunge pool on the deck – ideal for a soak with a glass of champagne, under a blanket of stars.
The sun loungers around the pool are perfect for sunbathing, reading or dozing, whilst the cosy loft serves as a quiet reading area or lounge to enjoy TV or a movie. In the main area, there are large, comfortable sofas by the roaring fireplace to keep you warm on a chilly evening, whilst on a warm summer’s night, nothing beats sitting on the deck by the pool sipping a refreshing cocktail to the sounds of lions roaring nearby.
From an intimate candlelit dinner under a galaxy of stars to a bush picnic or a romantic dinner in the privacy of your room, the only food rules Makanyi claims is to delight your palate!
Premium Africology amenities, complimentary Wi-Fi, telephone, hair dryer, mini bar, and a Nespresso coffee machine and tea making facilities are found in every room.
Photographic Safaris can be arranged in advance, comprising either one-to-one or group training (a maxium of four people). Your Photographic Safari will focus on practical and technical skills both on the game drive and back at the Lodge, where specific subject modules are taught and images are reviewed.
Practical on-location tuition is specific to your sighting, including settings, composition and shooting techniques such as panning, backlighting, side lighting and action shots as well as more basic advice on shutter speeds, ISO and aperture, taking the specific lighting conditions into account.
Included in private photographic tuition is the use of a private vehicle which enables you to have maximum flexibility for your wishes and convenience. The vehicle is designed to accommodate all the lenses and photographic equipment, including supports and bean bags. Photographic equipment is also available for hire, if required. The photographic tutor not only teaches and coaches the client but fulfils the role of a private guide as well.
Art Safaris with our fabulous local artist, Warren Cary, are an excellent and unique way for artists to enhance their skills in a totally new and ideal setting.
