Bateleur offers three and a half thousand Hectares (8,600 acres) of prime Timbavati game territory, with traversing over a decent ten thousand Hectares. Bateleur Main Camp is an eight-bed upmarket Safari Camp; Bateleur Mobile Camp is a very rustic tented safari camp for 4-18 people which is pitched in a different location for each group. The emphasis at both is very much back-to-nature with lots of physical activity and fresh air.
This wilderness area boasts the Big Five, a large diversity of antelope species, the entire range of smaller predators, over 500 bird species, and a tremendous diversity of reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. There is a focus on education and interpretation of the bush, with the Guides providing a wealth of information to enrich your adventure. You will learn a wide variety of bushcraft skills which may prove useful in the least expected of circumstances in the future!
These two Camps are an excellent budget option, and a fabulous introduction to the bush, or a deeper immersion for those who have stayed in less rustic Lodges.
Bateleur Main Camp is ideal for couples, singles and small groups of 2-8 people who are looking for a high quality Timbavati game lodge experience at a reasonable price. Clients staying at Bateleur Main Camp will enjoy daily morning and afternoon-evening guided game drives in an open safari vehicle with qualified guide & tracker – spotlights are used after dark. Optional bush walks are also offered in accordance with the preferences of the group, as well as bushcraft, a spider and scorpion exercise, and basic astronomy if the sky is clear.

Plug points are provided for charging camera batteries but hair dryers cannot be used due to the excessive load that they place on the system. Each spacious en-suite bathroom has flush-toilet, basin and a hot-water shower – one unit has an interior bath tub and a private outdoor shower. Quality towels are provided.
Outdoor showers are provided with all the privacy that you will need – water is heated via a boiler fuelled by a wood fire. A chemical-free swimming pool is located at the central area for guests to cool off between guided activities on a hot day. The central boma consists of a well-finished partially walled area open to the stars with chairs set up around a central fireplace, located next to a braai/barbeque area where food is prepared by the chef on the open fire.
This is an ideal place to enjoy meals when the weather allows and to relax around the fire and share stories of the day’s activities under a big African sky. There is an indoor dining area seating 8 people for unpleasant weather, spilling out onto an open lounge area for relaxing during fair weather. Drinks can be purchased from the bar.
Regular visitors to the camp during the day include Nyalas, warthogs and bushbuck, whilst elephants, buffalo and rhino can sometimes be seen walking through the river bed in front of the camp.
